Drivers who use a major motorway have been warned over "six months" worth of closures. In Devon, motorists and road users face six months of overnight closures as essential repairs are scheduled to be carried out by National Highways.

The repairs will be carried out on the concrete base layer of the M5 around junction 27 near Willand. There will be closures and a contraflow on the motorway to ensure safety for all motorway users, National Highways has warned.

A spokesperson from National Highways stated: "We understand that road closures are frustrating, but by closing the road and installing a contraflow, we can get this essential repair work done safely and quickly, causing less disruption overall.

"We'll be starting this work after the main summer holiday time, and making sure three lanes are open in each direction for October half term, to minimise disruption. Our work will finish before Easter 2025."

The spokesperson added: "Please remember that closures can change at short notice. You can check the latest information on our daily closures page or find live travel information on our Traffic England site. Our travel alerts give details of live incidents on our network."

Monday September 16 to Tuesday October 1 will be the first wave of closures. Drivers are told to expect overnight lane closures on the M5 around junction 27 (Tiverton) between 8.30pm and 6am each night. At least one lane will remain open in each direction.

On Wednesday October 2 and Thursday October 3 the M5 will be closed southbound between junction 26 (Wellington) and junction 28 (Cullumpton) between 8.30pm and 6am each night. Traffic will be diverted via the A38 & B3181.
