Motorists have been warned to switch on their air conditioning while driving in autumnal rain or risk facing a hefty £1,000 fine. TikTok influencers have been advising drivers to ensure their air conditioning is turned on during the autumn months.

As we transition from September through to November, with falling leaves and changing clocks marking the season, one TikTok user, Arya, has shared a potentially "life saving" tip that she claims "99 per cent of people don't know the correct usage of the air conditioning button".

"Do you know what the air conditioning button in your car is for? " she posed, before explaining: "Many people think that it can only be used to adjust the temperature. Wrong. In fact, it has many hidden functions. If you learn it, not only can it save fuel, it can also save your life at a critical moment."

She advises that during winter drives, the AC button should be switched off, and the outer loop pressed instead to draw in fresh air. "This way the glass won't frost easily," she added.

"This is very fuel efficient.", reports Birmingham Live.

However, if it's raining, Arya recommends turning on both the AC button and the outer loop, ensuring the airflow is directed solely at your windscreen.

"So even on rainy days the glass won't fog up," explained the car expert. He also suggested turning on the AC if you find yourself in a traffic jam.

Not only does this put drivers and other road users at risk, but it could also result in a fine of up to £1,000 for having an obstructed windscreen.

The hefty fines would be particularly unwelcome given the current Cost of Living crisis many are grappling with.
