Motorists have recently discovered a sneaky button in most cars that could improve your vehicle's cooling capabilities amidst this summer's rising temperatures. Generally, drivers feeling the heat will opt for switching their petrol, diesel or electric vehicle's air conditioning on or simply open their windows.

While these solutions can provide some relief from the heat, at times they might not be sufficiently cool, particularly when temperatures peak or vehicles have been sitting under direct sunlight. However, pressing the recirculation button - typically found on the car's dashboard - in addition to turning on the air-conditioning, could significantly improve things, reports the Express.

The top tip, shared by TikTok user @nicholassoos, has been widely praised online. One even claimed it was "life-changing".

In their TikTok, @nicholassoos said: "Alright guys. Let me change your life for the better, right now, today. So I've just learned something and I don't know how I've lived my entire life not knowing this simple fact and I'm here to teach you it."

"If you live somewhere where it's unbearably hot in the summer and your air conditioning in your car feels like it never gets cold enough in those mid-summer months, here's a little trick. So we got our standard AC button, always on full blast in the middle of the summer and then there's this button, this little guy, never use it, it's the recirculation button."

It is a button that does what it says on the tin according to @nicholassoos. They said: "What does having that button on do? Well, it recirculates the air. So think about it. It takes the cold air that's already in the car, recirculates it through to cool it even more, spits it out at a cooler temp than it was and therefore making your car even colder in the summer. Like how am I just learning this now? Life hack. Use it. It's summer. Have a cold car when you're driving."

The recirculation button usually displays a picture of a car with a squiggly arrow placed inside. Experts at used car dealers Ken Brown Motors said motorists should be using the air recirculation button to ensure a vehicle gets "as cold as possible as quickly as possible".

A spokesperson said: "It works by recirculating the cool air you get from your A/C when you first turn it on. The longer it's on for, the cooler your vehicle will get! If you don't use it, the car will use the air from the outside that is a lot warmer, and your A/C will work harder and continuously to cool the hot air."

Experts at the RAC, the leading breakdown specialists and car insurance specialists, also highlighted the possible benefits of using the recirculation button. They said: "Once the air conditioning is blowing cold, close all the windows and switch to (pre-cooled) recirculated air. You can now open the upper air vents and adjust the flow as required."
