Drivers parking next to kerb urged to follow little-known unwritten 'rule'
Drivers who are parking near the kerb have been urged to follow a lesser-known rule in a bid to keep safe. Motorists and road users who are parking on the street in the UK have been informed by a viral video on how to make sure they're parking correctly.
Zutobi, a TikTok content creator, says drivers must park away from the kerb, angling the front wheels towards the street. He said: "When you park uphill, turn your wheels away from the kerb. That will create a safe angle. In case your brakes fail, the wheels will bump into the kerb and prevent the vehicle from rolling back."
For those faced with parking on a slope without a kerb, the guidance is to turn the wheels in the opposite direction "so your vehicle will roll away from traffic." "When you park downhill, turn your wheels toward the kerb," he said.

And consider parking in first gear and pulling the handbrake so that "even if the brake fails, the first gear won't let the car move." The comment went on: "and when you are parking uphill leave it in first and downhill in reverse so that your car will also be stopped by gearbox ."
In the UK, you can ask us to drop the kerb in front of your driveway to allow access to your property. On its website, Learn Automatic explains: "Keep your car as slow as possible when moving towards the kerb. Think of a slow walking pace. It’s much easier to learn when the vehicle is slow.
"As you improve, you’ll be able to park more confidently and at a faster rate. When steering towards the kerb, do so in small increments. If your car moves towards the kerb at too much of a steep angle, you’re far more likely to hit it."
"When heading over towards the kerb, use the windscreen reference point marker initially and as you get closer to the kerb, alternate between the windscreen marker and the left passenger door mirror. Combining both points of reference will ensure you park perfectly," it adds.
