A TREE has fallen and is now blocking a road in Northwich this afternoon, Wednesday.

Winnington Lane is currently blocked by a tree and people are being urged to avoid the area while Cheshire West and Chester Council teams work to remove it.

On Twitter, the council said: “Our teams are currently working to remove a fallen tree that is blocking the road at Winnington Lane in Northwich – please avoid the area if possible.”

This is the second tree to have fallen across a road in the town in the past two days.

Yesterday, Tuesday, a tree was blocking Hough Lane after falling due to high winds, with the road being closed between New Road and Lydyett Lane.

During this incident, the tree also brought down power cables and Scottish Power engineers had to be called out.
