Drivers can use a "tried and tested script" to have their car insurance cut amid the Cost of Living crisis. Which? has revealed a "tried and tested script" for bagging cheaper car insurance deals. In the clip, Which? pretends to call a insurance company and asks why his car insurance is so much when he's seen it's "half the price" somewhere else.

After being put through to the renewals department, it's worth repeating you've looked at other quotes, and also add in that you've been a loyal customer for years, if this applies to you. Turn down the first offer they give, the expert add.

Drivers and motorists should "never accept" the first deal they may put forward, Which? said. The consumer watchdog and champion urged those who have cars to "walk away" unless they can offer a cheaper price than their competitors.

Replying to the driver on TikTok, a social media user said: "Mine actually went down this year." And a second wrote back: "Great advice, but I imagine when my renewal is up after one year the loyalty aspect won't fly for me."

A third replied: "Also, do it a month before and you get it cheaper." And another driver and motorist spoke out, too, writing in reply to the footage: "I just got told that if I felt the deal was better with the other company then to go with them."

Price comparison sites are a good place to start as they allow you to get multiple car insurance quotes quickly, Which? adds. Once you're on the insurer's website, check the policy details again, just to be sure the insurer has received all the correct information about you and is providing an accurate quote.

The main price comparison sites for insurance are Compare the Market, Confused.com, Go.Compare and MoneySuperMarket.
