There were delays on the A1 on Saturday morning as repairs were carried out following a crash.

The collision took place on the A1 northbound between J60 and J61 in County Durham on Friday. A lane was closed for emergency repairs to take place.

On Saturday morning, the lane remained closed and was causing delays of around 20 minutes in the area. The information was shared on social media by National Highways North East, who warned motorists to expect queueing traffic.

In a message on Friday, it said: "A lane is closed on the #A1M northbound between J60 and J61 while we make emergency repairs to a bridge parapet damaged in an earlier collision. This is expected to remain closed throughout the weekend."

Then in an update on Saturday, National Highways North East said: "1 lane (of 2) remains closed on the #A1M northbound in #CountyDurham between J60 (#Bradbury) and J61 (#Bowburn). This is to allow for emergency repairs to take place to a section of barrier following a collision. There's a 20 minute delay on approach."

Meanwhile, drivers can also expect congestion further north on the road. There are narrow lanes and a speed restriction of 50mph due to major widening works on the A1 Western Bypass Northbound from J65 in Birtley to J67 at the Coalhouse Roundabout. Work is taking place to create an extra lane in each direction.
