Drivers warned they must 'switch on' button in traffic or face £1,000 fines
Drivers have been warned they must do one thing when in a traffic jam - or face hefty fines.
TikTok content creators have warned motorists and road users to ensure their air conditioning has been turned on when driving in rainy days throughout autumn. Between September and November, as the weather gets colder, the "life saving" tip could help you avoid a fine.
One content creator, Arya, suggested that "99 per cent of people don't know the correct usage of the air conditioning button", BirminghamLive reports.
"Do you know what the air conditioning button in your car is for? " she asked, adding: "Many people think that it can only be used to adjust the temperature. Wrong. In fact, it has many hidden functions. If you learn it, not only can it save fuel, it can also save your life at a critical moment."
When driving in winter, motorists should turn the AC button off in their vehicles, then press the outer loop which draws fresh air in from the outside. "This way the glass won't frost easily," she added. "This is very fuel efficient."
If it's raining outside, Arya recommends turning on the AC button as well as the outer loop, and then make sure to turn the dial so that the air flow is only directed at your windscreen. "So even on rainy days the glass won't fog up," the car expert explained.
Turning the AC button on could also help during a traffic jam. Not only can drivers put people at risk, but also could be fined £1,000 themselves for having an obstructed windscreen.
