Drivers have been warned as a set of temporary traffic lights on a major road in Birmingham city centre have been left 'stuck on road' - causing tailbacks. The temporary lights are located on the A4540 Belgrave Middleway, at the junction with Longmore Street and Horton Square, in the Highgate area of the city.

Live traffic data on Google Maps showed long strips of red, indicating heavy traffic, heading in both directions of the A-road. Congestion has also spread to nearby Sherlock Street, the Belgrave Interchange junction, the Haden Circus junction, A4540 Highgate Middleway and Highgate Road.

Google Maps showed roadworks were taking place at the junction where the temporary lights are situated. West Midlands Roads, which is part of Transport for West Midlands, warned motorists to allow for 'extra time' for travelling or even consider 'taking other routes'.
