A group of whales and dolphins were spotted swimming side by side off the coast of West Beach, in Esperance, Western Australia, on July 13.
Local resident Robert van Beek filmed drone footage of the event, showing a pair of dolphins swimming alongside a group of whales.
Speaking to Storyful, van Beek said seeing the dolphins swimming beside the whales gave him, “a great indication of the sheer size of the whales.”
He added that he believed the whales in the video to be southern right whales. According to the World Wildlife Fund, southern right whales are medium to large baleen whales that can often be spotted around Australian coasts from mid-May to mid-November. Credit: Robert van Beek via Storyful
