Drone Footage Captures Demolition of Towering Stacks at Navajo Generating Station

Three towering emissions stacks located at the Navajo Generating Station, a coal power plant in northern Arizona, were demolished in a series of controlled explosions on December 18.

The massive plant and the nearby mine that supplied it were large employers in local tribal communities. But the plant was also one of the biggest contributors to carbon dioxide pollution in the United States.

Targeted by environmentalists, the plant ultimately succumbed to economic forces, including lower natural-gas prices and cheaper renewable energy sources coming online.
