Drone Footage Shows La Palma Lava's Destructive Path to the Sea

Drone footage from September 28 shows the destruction lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano has caused on the Spanish island of La Palma.

Copernicus EMS said on Tuesday that satellite imagery indicated that some 589 buildings and 21 kilometers (13.5 miles) of roadway had been destroyed by volcanic activity since September 19.

This drone footage, filmed on Tuesday morning and posted by Cabildo de La Palma, the Island Council of La Palma, shows properties and swathes of land consumed by the volcano’s pyroclastic flow.

“The unity of the institutions and the support of our people propel us forward,” the council captioned the video. Credit: Cabildo de La Palma via Storyful
