Drone Footage Shows Rebuilding Work on Coastline Devastated by 2011 Tsunami

The government of Fukushima prefecture has released a series of drone videos showing the rebuilding work six years after a tsunami and earthquake devastated the region.

These videos were originally captured in December 2016. They show a variety of areas, including Fukushima Prefecture’s Iwaki city, which is located about 30 miles south of the Fukushima power plant, and Futaba, a town about 11 miles north of the plant. Reconstructed roads and coastline can be seen.

On May 12, the Japanese diet enacted a bill aimed at accelerating Fukushima’s reconstruction by utilizing state funds to decontaminate specific districts that were exposed to radiation from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. Credit: PrefFukushima via Storyful
