Drug addict assaulted a paramedic after demanding a Dr Pepper
A drug addict assaulted a paramedic after demanding a Dr Pepper. Kyle Andrew was sitting on the pavement in Kenwyn Street in Truro after smoking crack cocaine, drinking alcohol and taking heroin when police officers were called to the scene.
Because of his condition and his erratic behaviour, demanding he be brought a soft drink, paramedics were called out, too. When they arrived, Andrew, 28, of Loggans Walke in Hayle, lunged at a female paramedic and punched her to the side of the face, just above her right eye, and shouted at her to "hurry up".
At a sentencing hearing at Truro Crown Court today (Tuesday October 29), it was heard that on the day of the incident (June 7) Andrew was also in breach of a two-year suspended sentence from 2022.

His defence barrister said Andrew, who pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting a paramedic by beating at Truro Magistrates Court in September, could not explain what happened as he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and it was only when he sobered up that he realised what he had done.
She said: "He is ashamed of his actions. He has regained the support his mother following a fractious relationship in the past. He knows he needs to address his problems and has been engaging with the services available to him. He recognises what his problems are and what he needs to do.

"He had complied with probation services in the past. He is not a lost cause in terms of rehabilitation. He needs the help of the system rather than languishing in prison."
Andrew's barrister said he is a qualified bricklayer and football coach and hopes to return to the sport when he has sorted his life out.
His Honour Judge Simon Carr said the offence had involved assaulting the paramedic who was there to help him and care for him.
He told him: "You have two choices available to you. The first one, you carry on taking drugs and you will either end up dead or go to prison. The second choice available to you is to change your ways."
Andrew was given a three-month prison sentence suspended for two years, with Judge Carr saying: "This is to remind you of the alternative you face if you fail to comply."
He was also sentenced to a nine-month drug rehabilitation requirement, 30 days of activity requirement, and a 7pm to 7am curfew.
