Drug deaths: Statement made on Scotland’s ‘national shame’

The Scottish Parliament has been recalled during recess after calls from Labour and the Conservatives for a ministerial statement on drug deaths. Figures released on Friday showed 1,339 people in Scotland had died from drugs in 2020 - three-and-a-half times higher than the rest of the UK, and the highest in Europe. Drugs Policy Minister Angela Constance called the loss of life from drug-related deaths “our national shame”.
