Police have seized drugs, cash and a 'dangerous' knife in two North Staffordshire raids. Officers executed warrants in Porthill and Wolstanton.

Now officers with Newcastle Local Policing Team say this week's action 'sends a strong message'. Following the warrants cops seized class A and B drugs, along with cash and a 'dangerous' zombie knife.

In September such blades, which are over eight inches in length and often have a serrated edge, spikes or more than two sharp points, were banned. That restriction also included machetes as they were added to the list of 'prohibited weapons'.

A spokesperson for the neighbourhood team in Newcastle said: "This action helps to protect our community, sending a strong message that we’re committed to keeping illegal items off the streets."

It also comes at a time where constabularies across the country have thrown their support behind the nationwide Operation Sceptre. It sees officers step up their efforts in tackling knife crime.

In Newcastle and weapon searches have been carried out in 'key locations' with cops focusing on Lyme Valley yesterday.
