Police in Wales have issued a drugs warning after a 25-year-old man died and an 18-year-old woman was left in a critical condition in hospital.

An investigation has been launched into the supply of dangerous drugs in the Cardiff area which are "believed to be linked to ketamine", South Wales Police said.

The force said the drugs "may contain a cocktail of toxic ingredients".

Last month, police in Northumbria issued a similar warning after four young people died in suspected drug incidents over one weekend.

One of the young people, 18-year-old student Jeni Larmour, had only been at university for a few days when she was found dead.

A large-scale investigation was launched and 10 people were arrested.

Anyone with any information relating to the use or sale of drugs is asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 or anonymously on 0800 555111
