China’s ambassador to Israel has been found dead at his home in Tel Aviv on Sunday, according to reports in Israeli media.

Du Wei, 58, was appointed to the role in February and had previously served as China's envoy to Ukraine.

The cause of his death has not been reported and Israeli police said it was being investigated.

He is survived by his wife and son, who were not in Israel at the time of his death.

Earlier this week, the Chinese ambassador condemned US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for the comments he made during a one-day trip to Israel.

On Wednesday, Mr Pompeo denounced Chinese investments in Israel and accused China of withholding information about the coronavirus outbreak.
