What Dua Lipa really thinks about Liverpool and Anfield as new concert date set
Dua Lipa will be returning to a place that is special to her when she plays at Anfield later this year. The popstar will be performing at the home of Liverpool in the summer.
The announcement comes amid what could be seen as an unlikely relationship between the popstar and the football club. When headlining Glastonbury earlier in the summer, the popstar was expected to have a following of Liverpool fans.
It’s a bond that dates back to 2018. Her songs are now played for any Liverpool celebration, with it heard a lot around the trophy-laden period of 2019 to 2023 under Jurgen Klopp.

But how did the relationship come about? Liverpool Echo has taken a look.
‘One kiss’ anthem
The popstar’s song ‘One Kiss’ has been adopted as somewhat of a Liverpool anthem, with the relationship first being established when Dua Lipa performed before the 2018 Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid in Kyiv. Despite initial skepticism of the performance, the 30,000 travelling Liverpool fans sang along with the song. Despite the 3-1 loss, videos of Liverpool fans singing the song have been widely shared on social media.
What she has said
Speaking to the official Liverpool website almost two years later, the popstar outlined her reaction to seeing the videos being circulated. “One of the highlights of the night was definitely seeing the video of all the Liverpool fans chanting along to One Kiss afterwards,” she said.
While she’s not a football fan, she promised to come to a match at Anfield soon. “I'll definitely come to a game some time,” she added. “My dad, who is a big Arsenal fan but has a soft spot for Liverpool, and my manager Ben, who is a big Liverpool fan, are working out when that can be.”
She later added: “I’m an honorary Liverpool supporter, only because my dad and brother support Arsenal and I’d be in a lot of trouble if I said I just supported Liverpool, but I love Liverpool, it’s always got a special place in my heart.”
Meeting legends
Upon performing a concert at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool in 2022, Dua Lipa met Reds’ legend Jamie Carragher and was presented with a home shirt with “Lipa 1” printed on the back. At the concert upon performing “One Kiss” she said the song was the unofficial Liverpool anthem and released red and white balloons into the crowd.
