Dua Lipa's Liverpool admission at Glastonbury showed her true feelings to city
Dua Lipa showed her affinity to Liverpool with a memorable exchange at Glastonbury. It was confirmed earlier this week the chart-topping musician would be coming to the city with a gig at Anfield next year.
Dua Lipa's presence in Liverpool is set to have extra importance attached to it due to the connection she has formed with supporters of the club in recent years. This bond first began six years ago when the 29-year-old performed her hit song 'One Kiss' in Kyiv as part of the opening ceremony for the 2018 Champions League final between the Reds and Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The Reds sang along to One Kiss, made by Dua Lipa and Calvin Harris. Despite losing the final 3-1, the memory remained a fond one to those in the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kyiv that night.
Dua later told the club’s website: "One of the highlights of the night was definitely seeing the video of all the Liverpool fans chanting along to One Kiss afterwards. I felt honoured.”
Dua went on to clarify she couldn't classify herself as a true red due to her family. She said: “I’m an honorary Liverpool supporter, only because my dad and brother support Arsenal and I’d be in a lot of trouble if I said I just supported Liverpool, but I love Liverpool, it’s always got a special place in my heart.”
It’s clear her affection for Liverpool FC and the people of Merseyside generally has remained strong. In 2019, a year after that performance, Liverpool won the following Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
That summer, Halewood-born DJ Sian Bennett ran into Dua at Glastonbury festival. Sharing a picture of her with the Future Nostalgia singer, Sian said: “She said she loved the Champions League final and she’s a red and she’s gonna have a dance with us later.”
Recalling the encounter in 2022, Sian told The Athletic: “A few drinks deep I ran over and told her we all loved the Champions League final that she was a Liverpool icon, an honorary Scouser, and she’d be welcome in Liverpool any time. The picture went mad on Twitter and everyone was buzzing over it."
Sian added: “It goes to show that Champions League final defeat didn’t dampen our spirits. That song should have reminded us of pain and defeat but it did quite the opposite.
“We weren’t finished. This was not the end of the journey. We knew it was just the beginning. It’s only fitting that we now whip the song out every time we win a cup. At one point, that tune was from one of our darkest moments. Now it’s our anthem.”
One Kiss was sung by Reds at Wembley following victories in the League Cup Final of 2022 and 2024, along with the FA Cup final in 2022. Dua Lipa's co-singer on that song, Calvin Harris, is a Liverpool supporter and joined the team’s victory parade in 2022.
Later that year, after performing a concert at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool in 2022, Dua Lipa met Reds’ legend Jamie Carragher. The musician was presented with a home shirt with “Lipa 1” printed on the back. At the concert upon performing “One Kiss” she said the song was the unofficial Liverpool anthem and released red and white balloons into the crowd.
