The Duchess of Cambridge channels Princess Diana as she leaves the Lindo Wing in red dress

On Monday morning The Duchess of Cambridge welcomed her third child, a baby boy.

Kensington Palace announced the news in a statement saying: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son 11.01 hours” adding that the newborn weighed a healthy 8lb 70z.

Throughout the afternoon large crowds gathered outside St Mary’s Hospital in London in order to get a first glimpse of the new addition, who is yet to be named.

After much anticipation, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as the new prince, who is fifth in line to the throne, made their first appearance as they stepped out of the Lindo Wing.

Less than seven hours after giving birth, Kate emerged looking radiant wearing a loose fitting Jenny Packham red dress with a lace detail peter pan collar.

The midi dress looked to be in homage to Diana, as the late Princess wore a very similar number when she gave birth to Prince Harry.

Plus, this wouldn't be the first time the Duchess has left the Lindo Wing resembling Diana.

Or, indeed, the first time the Duchess of Cambridge has worn Jenny Packham for her post-birth appearances.

After giving birth to Prince George, she left the hospital in a loose fitting Jenny Packham shift dress with retro pale blue polka dot print. The same print Diana wore when she gave birth to her first son, Prince William.

Kate also wore a yellow printed Jenny Packham dress after she gave birth to Princess Charlotte in 2015.

Earlier in the afternoon, Princess Charlotte and Prince George also joined their parents at the hospital to meet their new baby sibling.

Elder brother George was sporting his school uniform, having started Thomas's Battersea in September 2017. Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte looked adorable in a baby blue dress featuring a peter pan collar and subtle floral print.
