Duchess of Cambridge's uncle Gary Goldsmith charged with assault

The Duchess of Cambridge‘s uncle has been charged with assault after allegedly punching his wife.

Gary Goldsmith, 52, was charged with assault by beating after an alleged incident near his home in Wimpole Street, London, at around 1.20am on Friday.

He was bailed and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 31, The Metropolitan Police said.

Mr Goldsmith reportedly punched his wife during an argument after a night out at a charity auction.

Goldsmith is the younger brother of Carole Middleton, and attended the weddings of both Kate and Pippa.

He has hit the headlines previously over his so-called ‘wild’ antics.

In the past he describes the Duchess of Cambridge as a “confident, clever, caring girl who has taken her responsibilities in marriage and job incredible seriously”.

Goldsmith was brought up with his sister in Southall, west London. Their mother worked in a shop and also did accounts, while their father was a painter and decorator.
