She’s an expert on dressing to theme so for her very first visit to the Chelsea Flower Show you’d be forgiven for thinking the Duchess of Cambridge might opt for something floral. Instead, the 34-year-old gave a nod to the great outdoors with a grass-green Venetian wool coat-dress by Catherine Walker.

Choosing to keep her long locks loose aside from two sections pinned up, Kate accessorised her outfit with a small gold clutch and her trusty nude court shoes.

The Duchess was joined by husband Prince William, where they viewed a flower named in honour of their daughter Princess Charlotte, who turned one earlier this month.

The Princess Charlotte chrysanthemum is on display at the show and will be available to buy at selected Waitrose stores, with some of the profits going towards the East Anglia Children’s Hospices, of which Kate is patron.

The Queen was also in attendance at the famous flower show. Dressed in a pale-blue tailored coat with a matching floral dress, she viewed the towering floral arch marking her 90th birthday and the breathtaking sea of poppies in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea with husband Prince Philip.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Kate showcase this particular coat-dress. She first debuted it on her 2014 tour of Australia with Prince William. And like many of her sartorial choices the Duchess had given the designer of her outfit much choice, choosing one of Princess Diana’s favourite designers who’d actually started her work in Chelsea.

Though it was Kate and William’s first time at the popular event, Prince Harry, who was also in attendance, took part in the show last year when a garden was created for his charity Sentebale.

The show at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, central London, will be open to the public from Tuesday.
