It’s been another tough week for the Duchess of Sussex. This time, as you may have heard, she and Prince Harry were dragged for taking private jets on vacation (despite the security reasons for their doing so), fielding claims of so-called environmental hypocrisy.
As per, the royal couple stayed quiet over the media furore - despite some of their celebrity pals, like Elton John and Ellen DeGeneres, publicly rushing to their defence.
However, according to US Weekly, Meghan is privately fuming over the continuous back-to-back blows from British Media. An insider told the outlet she “feels that there is a standard set very high by [Kate Middleton]. It’s discouraging that the British public holds her up to that. Meghan has this sense of isolation being in the UK, subject to cruel British media. Her hands are tied and she isn’t allowed to defend herself. It has been very difficult.”
In the past, Meghan has claimed she refuses to read news stories about herself: “I don’t read any press. I haven’t even read press for Suits,” she told Vanity Fair during her pre-engagement interview.
However, another royal insider reportedly told US Weekly in December last year that Meghan was struggling even then at not being able to defend herself. “It’s just been frustrating and stressful to have no voice. She’s always relied on her own voice to stand up for others, and for herself. So not being able to say anything is a debilitating feeling. She’s always been so independent, her entire life, and that’s all been taken away from her. She’s always been able to clap back on social media and now she can’t.”
Last month appearing at The Lion King premiere, Meghan appeared to hint it has been difficult when she was overheard talking to singer Pharrell Williams, who congratulated her on her marriage to Prince Harry. Reportedly, she told him: “The don’t make it easy."
