Duke and Duchess of Cambridge take carol service to ITV after BBC rift

A Christmas carol service organised by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be aired on ITV after the royals criticised the BBC over a documentary which aired this week.

The Duchess is due to host a charity fundraiser at Westminster Abbey this winter which will be broadcast on ITV, according to The Sun.

The move to award ITV the exclusive rights to the service comes in the wake of anger among the royal family following a new two-part BBC documentary which aired its first installment this week.

Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and Kensington Palace issued a pointed statement which appeared on screen during the Princes and the Press accusing the BBC of propelling "overblown and unfounded claims from unnamed sources”.

The second installment of the programme is expected to include claims that the members of the royal household briefed journalists about the breakdown of relationships between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family.

The Duchess of Sussex was the only royal to cooperate with the programme, authorising her lawyer to make an appearance to deny claims she had been a "difficult or demanding" boss and drove staff to leave.

ITV and Kensington Palace were contacted for comment.
