Dumfries and Galloway man takes on challenge to run around coastline of Mauritius
Chris Thomson is on the run again.
The Glenkens adrenaline junkie is running around the coastline of the isle of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.
The 34-year-old started his TourdeMauritius on Monday and aims to return to the capital of Port Louis on Saturday evening.
In the process he’s hoping to raise money and awareness for a string of charities, including Movember, Mind, Dementia UK, British Heart Foundation, MNDA, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and Maggie’s Cancer Care.

He described his first day – which saw him reach Grand Riviere Noire – as “awesome” in a social media post.
He said: “Ran along roads and lots of trails. It was pretty bloody hot but took on plenty of water so coped all good!
“Given I’m a pale little tubby Scotsman I’m pretty chuffed with it overall!”
He was joined for part of his first day’s run by Yan De Maroussem, who currently holds the record time for running around Mauritius.
Chris, whose parents farm near Balmaclellan, has been keen to raise awareness of mental health issues after pal Hamish Lock took his own life.
Last year, he ran 800 miles in November and December – which featured 10 marathons in 10-days, including Christmas.
He then followed that up in the summer by running a 32-mile ultra marathon in each of Scotland’s 32 council areas in the space of just 32 days, becoming the first person to do so.
