Jamie Robson’s ‘black up’ fancy dress is being investigated by Dundee United

Dundee United defender Jamie Robson has come under fire after ‘blacking up’ at a fancy dress party.

United have launched an investigation into the racist fancy dress outfit, which Robson, 20, was pictured wearing on Saturday night.

He ‘blacked up’ his face and was dressed in an outfit that included an umbrella hat, hi-vis vest and black leggings under his shorts.

Robson was holding two signs: one said ‘Buy 1 Get 5 Free’, while the other said ‘Cheap as Chips’. Both signs had items such as bracelets and sunglasses attached to them.

“I spoke to him briefly. The standards at this football club have to kept at the highest level,” Terrors boss Robbie Neilson said.

“We will chat again later with him and the club will deal with it in-house.

“We are a big football club and we get a lot of exposure. The players, staff and everyone associated with it needs to realise that.

“When you are out and about and doing different things you are representing the club and the fans.

“So we will deal with it over the next few days.”

The incident comes at the end of a week which saw Raheem Sterling appear to be racially abused by a Chelsea fan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have a banana thrown at him by a Tottenham fan.
