Dunkin’ barista issues warning against ordering TikTok-famous menu item: ‘My two cents'

What happens when a 16-year-old gets a highly caffeinated drink named after her?

According to one Dunkin’ worker, chaos. The employee, named Angie, shared a now-viral TikTok about the chain’s all-new beverage, “The Charli.”

The iced drink, named after TikTok megastar Charli D’Amelio, debuted in early September. For many the 16-year-old’s 87.5 million followers, it was a pretty big deal.

Angie isn’t as excited though. The TikToker explained that a lot of D’Amelio’s “younger followers” were coming into her store and ordering the drink — some as young as 10 years old.

The problem? According to Angie, “The Charli” is one of the chain’s “strongest” drinks.

“It will keep you up all night,” Angie says in her clip.

“That drink is probably for college students who need to stay up all night,” the TikToker adds.

Obviously, that’s just one employee’s opinion, and Angie was quick to note that this is just her “two cents” and she doesn’t “think anyone cares.” Still, the video seemed to get a major reaction out of TikTok users.

“Y’all do realize she’s just trying to look out for our kids right?” one user wrote.

Angie’s reasoning: The drink is made with Dunkin’s cold brew. The caffeine content of cold brew can vary widely, but in many cases, it can be significantly stronger than regular iced coffee (for example, Starbucks’ cold brew is 20 percent more caffeinated, according to the New York Times.)

It’s also worth noting, though, that a standard hot, black coffee usually contains more caffeine than a cold brew of the same size.

Either way, Angie suggested that parents order their kids a decaf version of “The Charli.”

For those who are interested (and old enough!) “The Charlli” is a cold brew coffee with whole milks and three pumps of caramel swirl. The Connecticut native’s signature drink is reportedly due to her long-professed love for the chain.

Now, we’re all just waiting on the Dunkin’-Ben Affleck collab.
