Dunston Staiths is set to be illuminated as a Gateshead café hosts a night market event. The famous structure will be the subject of a light display, as The Staith's Café celebrates its 10th anniversary.

This Thursday, between 6.30-9.30pm, there will be 16 sellers from various local businesses trading their products, including Christmas gifts and sweet treats. The light installation, which has been created by Projected Image, will shine onto the iconic Dunston Staiths structure itself.

The Staiths Café team have issued some advice to those attending the free event, which has limited car parking, so people are asked to car share, walk or use public transport when possible. There is also parking available on Rose Street and at Dunston Excelsior Club.

Suzanne Hutton, the owner of The Staiths Cafe, said: "The light installation is just brilliant and having a night market at the same time is a perfect way to celebrate our 10th anniversary. There will be 16 sellers with a range of Christmas gifts and food on offer for the people that are coming.

"This is part of a series of events that we have hosted this year to mark the milestone, culminating in our huge Halloween party at the end of last month. It has been amazing to see the amount of customers who have come in to celebrate us being here, and we want to utilise the building for events as much as possible.

"It's rare to find a local business that lasts 10 years in this current climate, and we want to continue to encourage people to come down and enjoy the river. We have been supporting the Tyne Derwent Way in what they are doing, and we want to raise the profile of the area as much as possible, so everyone knows that it is here."
