Durham police issue warning over drugs and opioid overdose after rise in incidents
Police and health officials have issued a warning against using highly-potent synthetic opioid drugs after seeing a rise in incidents across the country.
Nationally, Nitazenes have been found in street drugs being sold as opioids but also in other drugs including benzodiazepines, cocaine and oxycodone. Even if you are a regular opioid user, Nitazenes can be toxic and cause serious harm and death, the authorities say.
A warning shared by Durham Constabulary says: "They can come in any form but mostly present as tablets, often mixed with several other substances that the user may not be aware of. Health officials are urging people in the force area to remain vigilant and if using regularly to keep Naloxone on them in case they overdose."

Pinpoint pupils

Changes in skin colour
Becoming limp
Becoming nauseous or vomiting
The police added: "If you witness any of these symptoms, call 999 immediately. If you’re helping someone else, also administer Naloxone and put them in the recovery position. For more information or to get help with addiction, visit https://codurhamrecovery.co.uk/"
