Dust Storm Lowers Visibility on I-55 in South Illinois
Illinois State Police closed the southbound and northbound lanes of Interstate 55 in Montgomery County on Tuesday, May 2, amid dusty conditions.
A stretch of Interstate 55 was also closed on May 1, as police said at least six people were killed in numerous crashes that occurred during a dust storm south of Springfield.
The National Weather Service said a combination of newly plowed fields and gusty northwest winds created a dust storm in the area at the time of the crashes.
