Dust Storm Sees Red Haze Descend on Western Australian Town

A dust storm caused by winds from a former cyclone blanketed Geraldton and some surrounding areas in Western Australia with a red haze on Sunday, May 24.

Local resident Sharnee Meagher captured footage from a moving car showing the poor visibility caused by the dust.

Powerful winds from ex-Tropical Cyclone Mangga wreaked havoc along the Western Australian coast, damaging property and leaving tens of thousands without power, according to the ABC. The Bureau of Meteorology said the strongest gust was clocked at 126 km/h. Large waves and higher than normal tides caused significant beach erosion, the bureau said.
