Tom Daley's triumphant Olympic gold medal win has been celebrated by his husband Dustin Lance Black.

Daley and his diving partner Matty Lee won the top prize in the men's synchronised 10m platform at the Tokyo Olympics on Monday, with director Black sharing his reaction online.

The 47-year-old was watching the event with Daley's mother Debbie, with both of them sporting 'Team Daley' t-shirts.

In a video posted to his Instagram story the pair could be seen screaming and jumping up and down following the dive.

"I did say they would hear us from Canada!" Black wrote.

He also shared a message to Twitter to congratulate Daley, 27, and Lee, 23.

"No words! So so many tears! @TomDaley1994 you're an OLYMPIC CHAMPION! Congratulations Tom and @MattyLee !" he wrote.

The couple celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary this year after tying the knot back in 2017.

They welcomed son Robert 'Robbie' Ray Black-Daley the following year in June 2018 via a surrogate. He is named after Daley's father Robert who died from a brain tumour in 2011.

The accolade marks Daley's first Olympic gold after competing in four Games, having previously taken home bronze medals in the individual and synchronised 10m events in the 2012 and 2016 respectively.

Prior to the win, Black shared the video message Daley had left for him and their son as well as the sportsman's mother.

"As you know, the support from you guys has been able to get me through some of my crazy days, some of my easy days, the highs, the lows and everything in-between.

"I think this journey from Rio where I was at my lowest point in my sporting career to now coming into this Olympics in a completely different mind space, I'm excited. And the fact that you guys make me feel loved regardless of how I'm going to do makes things a lot easier, it takes a lot of pressure off of me.

"So thank you for that and I miss you guys a lot, I can't wait to see you. I love you."
