Dutch Police Smash Car Window to Free Dog in Hot Weather

Police in the Dutch town of Valkenswaard, near Eindhoven, smashed the window of a parked car on June 26 to free a distressed dog trapped inside during a heatwave in Western Europe.

While the temperature outside the car was 27 C (80.6 F), police said the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rise to 37 C (98.6 F) after just 10 minutes, and up to 45 C (113 F) after 45 minutes.

“We have provided the car with ‘ventilation’, at the owner’s expense of course,” police said. They added that the dog was “doing well” and has been housed elsewhere. Credit: Police Valkenswaard via Storyful
