DVLA says drivers must act 'before Tuesday' in licence plate warning
DVLA has issued a "highly sought after" number plate update just days after new changes were launched. New number plates were rolled out at the start of September - with the 74 plate launch following this March's earlier release of 24 plates.
Now, the DVLA is preparing for an online number plate auction which runs until Tuesday, September 10. It has called on motorists to check its latest list of personalised number plates available on its website and earmarked some of the most unique registrations on the market.
The auction is selling personalised number plates with prices starting as low as £70 or as much as £2,500. So far, the number plate "5 RUM" is the most popular lot, with the current bid sitting at £11,610, despite starting at just £1,200.

The second most popular plate - "112 P" - had a higher starting price at £2,500 but has already surpassed the £10,000 bid mark. Drivers have until 2.40pm on September 10 to get their bids in, the DVLA has gone on to tell motorists up and down the UK.
It says: "Decide on your spending limit. Don’t forget that there is VAT, a buyer’s premium of 7% and an £80 assignment fee to be added to the bid price if successful. When deciding on the value of your bid, remember that bids start at the Starting Price and increase in increments of £10."
It went on: "Once you have registered as a bidder, you can place your bids. You will be able to see the current bid price on each lot. You will have the freedom to increase your bids up until the deadline. Once placed, bids cannot be removed. This auction operates on the basis of maximum bids and features sliding end times."
Bids will only be accepted until Tuesday 10 September 2024.
