DVLA warning as drivers told to check their inbox and 'report'
Warnings have been issued over fake DVLA emails being sent by scammers. Action Fraud said it has received more than 1,100 reports of bogus emails landing in inboxes, claiming to be from the DVLA.
The fake emails warn recipients that their 'vehicle tax payment has failed' and steps need to be taken. But Action Fraud has now warned that scammers behind the emails are trying to 'steal your information'.
If you receive a worrying email, you should let the Suspicious Email Reporting Service know. On X, formerly known as Twitter, Action Fraud said: "We've received over 1,100 reports about FAKE emails claiming to be from the #DVLA.

"The emails claim that your "vehicle tax payment has failed" to steal your information. You can report it by forwarding it to report@phising.gov.uk"
Action Fraud said that you should always report any emails you receive which raise your suspicions. On its website, it said: "Cyber criminals use fake messages as bait to lure you into clicking on the links within their scam email or text message, or to give away sensitive information (such as bank details).
"These messages may look like the real thing but are malicious. Once clicked, you may be sent to a dodgy website which could download viruses onto your computer, or steal your passwords."
