DVSA warns UK drivers cars are being 'recalled' after MOT update
The DVSA has issued an urgent vehicle recall warning for UK drivers. The MOT reminder service was updated earlier this year and almost 700 vehicle-related recalls have been made so far this year as a result of the changes.
Drivers are being urged to check their MOT certificates to see if their car needs to be urgently recalled. Posting on social media, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) urged motorists to ensure they are aware of new changes to its services.
Posting on social media site X, the DVSA explained: “Any outstanding safety recalls on your vehicle will now appear when you receive your MOT reminder. “If you have one, your vehicle manufacturer should tell you what the fault is, what you need to do next, who you should contact."

It comes after The Car Expert revealed the number of recalls had soared. New data from the DVSA shows the number of recalls has increased by more than tenfold since 1994. Over the first eight months of 2024, almost 1.1 million cars and 1.2 million vehicles were issued a recall notice by the DVSA.
The DVSA says drivers would now see any outstanding safety recalls for their vehicles on their MOT reminder when they receive their letters. Tthe manufacturer of the impacted vehicle should inform the owner if you're affected, it added.
This will include what the fault with the vehicle is, what they need to do next and who they should contact to find out more information. Stuart Masson, editorial director at The Car Expert previously admitted it was “vital” that road users are aware of any issues with their motors.
He explained earlier this year: “Recalls in the UK are serious, as they usually indicate safety concerns. With the growing number of recalls, it's vital that drivers stay informed."
