DWI Suspect Rear-Ends Police Vehicle Stopped on Texas Freeway

A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated (DWI) after their car collided with a parked police vehicle on a freeway in Richardson, Texas, early on September 22.

The collision occurred as officers were on the scene of another accident. Two lanes were blocked, patrol squads had “all emergency lights activated,” and officers were out of their vehicles speaking to drivers, police said.

“We are extremely grateful that no one was injured,” the Richardson Police Department said. “Fortunately when the collision occurred, the officer was not inside his car,” they added.

Dashcam footage from the vehicle that was struck shows it being spun around by the force of the collision, and footage from an officer’s body-worn camera shows damage to the rear of the vehicle.

“There is no excuse for driving while intoxicated. Call a friend, family member, ride service, do the right thing,” the Richardson Police Department said. Credit: Richardson Police via Storyful
