New DWP disability payment rates for state pensioners starting in April 2025
State pensioners are to see an increase in the levels of disability support they receive from April 2025. The Department for Work and Pensions is to bring in a 1.7 per cent increase for almost all benefits.
The uprating is in line with the inflation figure from last September, which was used to make the decision prior to the October Budget. The State Pension and guarantee credit element of Pension Credit are to see a higher increase of 4.1 per cent under the triple lock guarantee, a policy that may be revised in future years by Labour's new pensions minister, Torsten Bell, who described the current system as "silly."
Older people who have disabilities or long-term mental or physical health conditions may be eligible for Attendance Allowance if they need care during the day or night or both. Some may already be on Personal Independence Payment (PIP) - this can continue if you are already on it when you reach State Pension age although no new claims can be made. You cannot get Attendance Allowance and PIP at the same time, however.
Others are still receiving Disability Living Allowance, a benefit that can now only be claimed for children under 16. Adults who are on DLA may be asked to move across to PIP instead, especially if their circumstances change and trigger a reassessment of their benefits.

Figures show just over 1.6 million older people receive Attendance Allowance, including around 24,000 in Birmingham. Another 3.66 million people in Britain receive Personal Independence Payment including thousands of claimants who are above State Pension age. In addition, figures show just under 440,000 people over State Pension age are in receipt of Disability Living Allowance.
It's also worth noting that higher amounts of the income top-up benefit Pension Credit may be payable to those with disabilities. This applies to Pension Credit recipients who also receive Attendance Allowance, middle or highest rate care for DLA, the daily living component of PIP or Scotland's equivalent Adult Disability Payment, or who have been awarded the veterans' benefit Armed Forces Independence Payment.
