DWP handing people on six benefits bonus payment to help with cold weather
A full list of benefits eligible for cold weather payments worth up to £25 a week has been revealed. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) says households across the UK are eligible for £25 cold weather payments if they're in receipt of certain benefits.
If the mercury drops to 0°C or below for seven days in a row in a particular postcode, people living there could qualify for a special payment of £25 to help with their heating costs. Low income households in England and Wales are eligible for Cold Weather Payments between November and March if the weather is particularly wintry.
In order to be eligible, households must be living in one of the select postcodes affected, as well as claiming one of the following benefits: Pension Credit or Income support or Income-based jobseeker's allowance or Income-related employment and support allowance or Universal Credit or Support for mortgage interest.

You may also need to meet one or more of the following criteria: have a disability or be in receipt of pension premium or have a child who is disabled or be in receipt of child tax credits that includes a disability or severe disability element or have a severe or enhanced disability premium or be in receipt of a limited capability for work amount or have a child under five living with you.
Those eligible will receive £25 for each seven-day period over the winter months between 1 November and 31 March. If you are eligible, the money will be paid directly into your bank account automatically. The DWP has confirmed that households do not need to apply or take any action to ensure they get the money.
In the 2022 to 2023 winter season, an estimated eye watering £137.6 million was paid out in the DWP scheme.
