DWP to pay state pensioners born before this date hundreds of pounds
The DWP will pay a select number of state pensioners a couple hundred pounds in the matter of weeks. As part of the upcoming Winter Fuel Payment, those who were born before September 23, 1958, will qualify for a £200 payment.
This is, however, on the condition, that they also receive some form of benefits. This includes the likes of Pension Credit, Universal Credit and Income Support, Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit. You must also live in England or Wales.
The aforementioned benefits must have been received during the qualifying week of Monday, September 16 to Sunday, September 22. The payment is to help those struggling pay for bills between the Winter months in 2024 to 2025, as the bills are often higher during due to the temperatures dropping outside.

When will I not be eligible for the £200 payment?
You will not be eligible if you:
live in Scotland
have been in hospital getting free treatment for more than a year
were in prison for the whole of the week of 16 to 22 September 2024
were living in a care home for the whole time from 24 June to 22 September 2024
What if I live in a care home?
You can get a Winter Fuel Payment if:
you get certain benefits and are eligible
you have lived in a care home for less than 13 weeks including the week of 16 to 22 September 2024
What if I live abroad?
If you do not live in the UK, you’re only eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment if:
you were born before September 23, 1958
you are getting a benefit paid by the UK, for example a State Pension
you moved to an eligible country before December 31, 2020 and are covered by the Withdrawal Agreement
you have a genuine and sufficient link to the UK - this can include having lived or worked in the UK, and having family in the UK
You must also be getting a qualifying means-tested benefit from the country you live in that is equivalent to the likes of Pension Credit or Universal Credit
How much will I get?
You’ll get a letter in October or November telling you how much Winter Fuel Payment you’ll get. If you do not get a letter but think you should have, you can make a claim.
The amount you receive is based on when you were born and your circumstances on the qualifying week. It will also depend if you live alone or with someone. Any money you get is tax-free and will not affect your other benefits. The money is to be paid from November onwards.
