The Department for Work and Pensions says some Pension Credit claimants still WON'T get the £300 Winter Fuel Payment and allowance from the new Labour Party government. The DWP has clarified eligibility for the £300 payouts.

The DWP has identified four key reasons why some pensioners might not receive the £300 Winter Fuel Payment, despite claiming benefits. These include living in Scotland and residing in a care home for the entire period from 24 June to 22 September 2024.

The other two reasons and being in hospital for free treatment for more than a year or being in prison for the whole qualifying week of 16 to 22 September 2024. These exclusions apply regardless of whether a person receives Pension Credit or other means-tested benefits.

The DWP says that when you apply for Pension Credit your income is calculated. If you have a partner, your income is calculated together. Pension Credit tops up your weekly income to £218.15 if you’re single or your joint weekly income to £332.95 if you have a partner

The DWP said Pension Credit is worth £3,900 extra a year on average. If your income is higher, you might still be eligible for Pension Credit if you have a disability, you care for someone, you have savings or you have housing costs.

Your income includes State Pension, other pensions and earnings from employment and self-employment as well as most social security benefits, for example Carer’s Allowance. If you get Pension Credit you’ll automatically get cold weather payments.

You’ll also be eligible to apply for a free TV licence if you’re aged 75 or over and get help with NHS costs if you get the Guarantee Credit part of Pension Credit. NHS costs can include things such as prescriptions, dental treatment, glasses and transport costs for hospital appointments.
