DWP warning to act fast over major change 'limited slots'
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has introduced a convenient online application method for pensioners who are on state pension with disabilities to apply for financial assistance. The support is Attendance Allowance, which can now be claimed online to enhance access for those in need.
Eligible individuals could be entitled to as much as £108 per week from this allowance, with currently around 1.6 million UK residents benefiting from these funds. It's important to note from the DWP's GOV. UK page that the online service will only process a "limited number" of applications each week.
Only desktop or laptop computers can be used for applications, as mobiles and tablets are not yet supported, and applications are accepted exclusively on Mondays. Due to its developmental phase, the DWP states the online service faces certain limitations. This also extends to those representing others through power of attorney or as appointees, who are unable to use the online service at present, reports the Express.

Moreover, it's critical to be prepared before logging in because the form does not allow you to save progress; thus, it needs completion in one go.
Essential details to have on hand include:
National Insurance number
Address and contact details
Details of the health condition or disability that they need extra help for
Details of their GP surgery or medical centre.
For individuals who encounter obstacles with the online service, postal applications remain the standard method for claiming this benefit.
A range of health conditions might make someone eligible, and here's a list of the main conditions typically claimed for:
Arthritis
Dementia
Heart Disease
Respiratory Conditions
Disease Of The Muscles, Bones or Joints
Cerebrovascular Disease
Back Pain
Visual Disorders and Diseases
Parkinson’s
Applicants must have had these needs for the preceding six months unless they're diagnosed with less than 12 months to live.
However, it's important to note that individuals won't be able to claim Attendance Allowance if they're already receiving Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Adult Disability Payment (ADP), or the care component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
Attendance Allowance is paid at two rates: The lower rate and the higher rate. The amount eligible claimants receive is calculated based on how much help is needed, not any current help the person does or doesn't get.
The new lower and higher payment rates this year are:
Lower rate: £72.65 per week
Higher rate: £108.55 per week.
This means the highest payment is worth around £470 a month and a much more significant £5,644 a year.
Those requiring assistance during the day or night may qualify for the lower rate, while those needing help both day and night or facing a terminal illness may be eligible for the higher rate.
Claimants can apply online here or by post by contacting the Attendance Allowance helpline on 0800 731 0122.
