People with one of 52 eye conditions are entitled to payments of up to £8,844 each year from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). This is in the form of Personal Independence Payments (PIP).

People who apply for PIP undergo a functional assessment which considers the effect a person’s condition(s) has on their daily life. This is rather than only focusing on the health condition or impairment itself.

The assessment looks at a person's ability to carry out a series of everyday tasks that are essential to living an independent life, such as the ability to prepare, cook and eat food, dress and undress, or plan and follow journeys. A person will be scored depending on how their condition(s) impacts these activities, reports BirminghamLive.
