The major mains burst hit water supplies across vast parts of Conwy county causing chaos for 40,000 affected homes and businesses. The incident - at Bryn Cowlyd Water Treatment Works, Dolgarrog, on Wednesday - has caused huge disruption.

This has cost businesses thousands of pounds and has also meant residents having to fork out on bottled water. Households are starting to see water now return but some still remain without a normal supply.

The only consolation for those affected is that there is compensation offered.

Dwr Cymru said: "To recognise the inconvenience being experienced by customers whose supplies have disrupted, each eligible household will be paid £30 in compensation for every 12 hours their supplies have been affected."

When and how will customers receive the money:

This will automatically be paid to customers in their bank accounts. This should be within 20 days.

Cheques will be issued over the coming weeks to customers who do not have registered a bank account with them.

People have been warned to beware of scammers claiming to be from Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water asking for bank details to enable payments.

Businesses

Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water will be paying each business affected by the “burst water” compensation of £75 for every 12 hours their supplies were affected.
