Yahoo News Dying BBC presenter reveals trolls 'berated' her for 'not trying hard enough' to save herself from cancer
The BBC presenter who revealed she has just days to live has hit out at online trolls who ‘berated’ her for ‘not trying hard enough’ to save herself from cancer.
Radio 5 Live journalist Rachael Bland was diagnosed with the disease in 2016 and announced on Twitter on Monday that she was approaching the end of her life.
The 40-year-old mother-of-one said she being overwhelmed with supportive messages but she also revealed how some messages were less positive.
In an article for Huffington Post, written before her most recent diagnosis, Bland said: ‘I was sent so many beautiful messages.
‘Along with many telling me to go to foreign climes to try miracle cancer treatment – FYI these all get deleted immediately.’
She added that she received criticism for ‘not trying hard enough’ to save herself during her cancer battle.

Speaking about her son Freddie, Bland went on: ‘I have a Whatsapp group with Steve’s sister where I send her things I want for Freddie and his future. The things that might overwhelm and upset Steve now but she will make sure happens.
‘The main thing is that, while he’s so young, I want him to remember me in some way.’
Following the news of her diagnosis, Bland’s humorous ‘You, Me and the Big C’ podcast has reached number one in the UK podcast charts.
According to the BBC, which produces the podcast, of the top 20 health podcasts downloaded, 15 are episodes of You, Me and the Big C.
Alongside friends Deborah James and Lauren Mahon, Bland has documented her cancer from first discovery, to being told it was incurable in May of this year, to finally being warned there were just days left.
