Eamonn Holmes brings This Morning to halt when Manchester United ring him live on air

Eamonn Holmes brought This Morning to a halt when his mobile phone started ringing live on air.

The presenter, who is currently filling in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield during the half-term holiday alongside wife Ruth Langsford, was left embarrassed when he received a call during a link to an advert break.

“Is that you?” Langsford asked, before adding: “How unprofessional. Hasn’t turned his phone off on the other side of the studio.”

The former Sky News host leapt up from his seat to pick up the phone, while blaming the caller for not being aware of his TV presenting schedule.

“What gets me is the people who phone you at this time of day,” he joked. “Do they not watch TV?”

The 59-year-old then revealed that the call was “from Man United,” prompting Langsford to speculate that they were “obviously phoning to gloat about the match last night,” in reference to the team’s victory against Chelsea yesterday.

Elsewhere in the episode, soap reporter Sharon Marshall suffered an unfortunate gaffe when she walked into a fake door.

The cameras captured the moment that the journalist attempted to leave the set, but was foiled by the false exit point.

“I was trying to get out but there’s a camera behind the door, it’s like a Dalek,” she explained to Langsford.

Last week, viewers were shocked to learn that the programme’s riverside window backdrop is “fake” following This Morning’s move to Television Centre in White City.

The screen behind Holmes and Langsford went black on air, causing the scenic view to disappear.

This Morning airs on ITV on weekdays from 10.30am.
