Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, renowned for their playful on-screen antics and friendly jibes, couldn't save their relationship with their banter.

The ex-This Morning presenters shocked fans by announcing their divorce after 14 years of marriage over the weekend, following months of industry rumours.

The pair, parents to an adult son named Jack, are 'determined to stay friends and keep things amicable', according to their joint statement.

It's believed that Eamonn has left their £3.2million Weybridge, Surrey home following a turbulent couple of years behind the scenes. A variety of factors reportedly contributed to their split, including Eamonn's bouts of depression during his struggle with chronic back pain.

A friend of the couple allegedly told MailOnline about Eamonn's health woes: "Ruth has become more his carer than a wife. Eamonn has been thoroughly miserable."

They suggested that Eamonn had grown "more and more grumpy" and eventually it began to bring Ruth "down more than she could accept", reports the Mirror.

The outlet also claimed that Eamonn has humorously mentioned to pals that he's been 'touched' more by his physiotherapist than Ruth in recent years. The GB News host, 64, undergoes daily physiotherapy sessions to enhance his mobility, having had a double hip replacement in 2016 and spinal surgery in 2022.

After his hip replacement operation, Eamonn pointed the finger at Ruth for his health struggles, teasing that their active sex life was behind the issue. He quipped to The Mirror: "I'm facing a two-week double hip operation, she wore them out, she's got to help wear them in," and further added, "The doctor says no hanky panky and no strong exercise."

In 2022, Ruth confessed that Eamonn's health challenges had added some strain to their marriage as they navigated these issues as a family. Speaking to Woman's Weekly magazine, she shared: "I don't know how much Eamonn's mobility will improve. We live in hope... With any care situation - and there are millions of carers in this country - it isn't always easy."

Never one to shy away from discussing their sexual relationship on television, just a few months before their separation, Ruth divulged Eamonn's secret method of getting lucky with her. During an episode of Loose Women, she explained: "You can have all the compliments and the flowers but then, if Eamonn comes home and has used my car and he goes, 'Filled the petrol up and did your water bottle', I'm like, 'Get upstairs right now'.

The audience erupted into laughter as Ruth went on: "I hate doing it. Literally, I'll go round with my petrol light on red, the water bottle empty, smeared [windscreen], I'm like, 'Oh I can't stop and do that,' so he'll do it for me and he knows, he knows."

Adding cheekily: "Everyone's got their little trick."
