Eamonn Holmes' family 'never warmed' to his now estranged wife Ruth Langsford, according to reports.

The telly couple, both 64, sent shockwaves through the showbiz industry last weekend when it was revealed they had called time on their 14-year marriage and were headed for the divorce courts.

Eamonn, who thanked fans for supporting him after the bombshell on GB News on Tuesday, has been married before, to Gabrielle Holmes, who he wed in 1985. They welcomed Declan, 35, Rebecca, 33, and Niall, 31 before they separated in 1996.

Ruth is said to have a strong relationship with Eamonn's children, but now it's been reported some of the Belfast star's relatives didn't "see eye to eye" with the Loose Women star, "partly out of loyalty" to Gabrielle, the Mirror reports.

Speaking about the claims, an insider said: "Eamonn's Catholic family didn't really see eye-to-eye with Ruth, but he was totally bowled over by her," reports the Mail.

Eamonn previously admitted he could one day move back to Northern Ireland. and marry a "local girl" in a resurfaced interview recorded before his split from Ruth.

The dad-of-four from north Belfast, who shares son Jack, 22, with the Loose Women star, was speaking on NVTV's Conversations With Gerry Kelly in January, when he revealed: "Ruth wouldn't come back to Northern Ireland.

"Yes, because of her family and also because she's English and she sees life around London and things, whereas I can't stand London. So we have a different outlook on things like that."

Eamonn then thought about a future without his wife as he added: "Maybe Ruth will be run over by a bus or something, who knows? If I get another wife I might come back, get a local girl. That's awful talking about Ruth being run over by a bus, that's awful."

Earlier this week, the Northern Irishman opened up about his separation from his wife while on air at GB News.

Taking a moment during the show, he expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, saying: "I would just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation and your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

Ruth is yet to comment on the break-up, but was notably absent from her Loose Women gig this week. However, she did appear on shopping channel QVC on Thursday, flogging her clothing range - with her wedding ring on.

The presenter shared a mirror selfie taken in a lift, wearing an outfit from her line with the caption: "Yes... It had to be done!" as she added Naughty Boy's popular song with Emeli Sande, Lifted, onto the Instagram Story post.
