Eamonn Holmes has revealed that he fell down 18 stairs while he was recovering from back surgery.
In September, the broadcaster announced that he would be taking time off from his GB News breakfast show to have much-needed surgery to alleviate chronic pain he had been experiencing.
However, the former This Morning host then suffered a fall down his spiral staircase and had to undergo emergency surgery on his right shoulder as a result.
During his return to GB News on Monday, Homes was asked about his health to which he said with a laugh: “Well basically, I can’t walk.”
Pointing toward the upper half of his body, he added: “Everything up here works, but it’s the legs.
“[The operation] has set me back and made me fall down stairs. My leg gave way and I fell down 18 stairs.”
In an attempt to make Holmes laugh, co-host Isabel Webster joked: “Shouldn’t have been climbing the stairs though should you at that point?”
He responded: “What am I supposed to do? How do you get to bed?
“So, I fell down the spiral staircase, smashed my right shoulder, and the first thing you did was lean on my shoulder.”
He stepped back from hosting GB News ahead of his surgery, not long before announcing the death of his mother. He was later reported to be in rehabilitative treatment for his injuries sustained in his subsequent fall.
The presenter has been candid about his health struggles with followers and shared that he had received steroid injections in his spine as surgeons had initially advised him against the spinal surgery after he had three slipped discs.
Holmes’ detailing of the incident comes after he confirmed his return to the channel on Sunday.
Sharing a video on social media, the Northern Irish presenter shared: “After nearly four months away off the telly, I’m back tomorrow which sounds like a threat doesn’t it!
“You may or may not be aware of what happened to me. I had some back surgery because I’ve had disc problems for a year and a half or so and the surgery affected one of my legs, which led to me falling down stairs, and breaking my shoulder.
“So I had a leg that didn’t work, and a shoulder that didn’t work — and lots of other things in between.”
Poking fun at how he spent his time off recovering, he joked: “I feel that there are only so many boxsets I can watch or recommend to you!
“I’m not better, but I’m better than I was. And I’ve decided to make an attempt to go back to work on GB news from tomorrow. This is on the basis that work, hopefully, will help to heal me.”
Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel airs weekdays from 6am on GB News.
